In 1996, ŽSD a.s. was granted the Czech Railway Certificate of competence to recycle B I class (32/63 mm) rail bed ballast as the first company in the Czech Republic. In the following years, the company was also granted the Czech Railway Certificate of competence to recycle rail bed ballast for rail substructure layers (0/32 mm). In 1998, at the Brno environmental ENVI fair, the company won the top prize of the Odpady journal for greatest contribution to environment protection.

Since 2007, ŽSD a.s. has implemented the Integrated Management System (IMS) for the following operations:

• Waste handling
• Building and utility line constructions and reconstructions
• Demolitions and dismantling of buildings and building parts
• Steel structure production and assembly
